Built in 2010, the Nature Center is Floracliff’s main office and headquarters. Funding to build the Nature Center was provided through a bequest from the late Winifred Watkins Haggart. Thanks to a generous grant from the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, the Nature Center was equipped with a solar energy system in 2017.
Most of Floracliff’s guided hikes meet at the Nature Center. The building includes a classroom for indoor programs as well as accessible restrooms. There is one accessible parking spot next to the center.
Small groups may rent the Nature Center for approved events Monday – Friday. Availability is subject to Floracliff’s programming schedule.
Acquired by Floracliff in 2017 with a 59-acre land purchase. The lodge was built in 1917 for Camp Trail’s End, one of the first organized camps for girls in the South. It provided a camp office and gathering spot where the girls could read, play piano, and store their wardrobes. After the camp closed in 1935, the lodge was used for community gatherings, scout groups, and a church camp. It was converted to a residence in the 1980s. Today, Floracliff uses the lodge for staff housing and programs, including the Bluegrass Biodiversity Seminar Series and the Bluegrass Land and Nature Symposium. A bird feeding station in front of the lodge is used for bird-watching programs and community science projects, including Project FeederWatch. A water feature in the front yard, funded by donors and a grant from the Fayette County Conservation District, provides a water source for birds, amphibians, and other wildlife.
Parking is available near the lodge for those who need it. There are two thresholds (maximum 2.5”) to access the main room. The Lodge includes two restrooms.
The Lodge is not available for rentals.
